January 29 That baby is a growerWe had our next-to-last weigh in for the baby today during the ultrasound. She came in at a whopping 5 pounds, 15 ounces, quite the growth from her 4 pounds, 1 ounce of three weeks ago.
Some friends in Columbia that we work with threw a shower for us this weekend. Click here to see a photo album at my new PhotoBucket account.
And now, a picture of the baby:
January 23 Jenny felt some contractions todayJenny called me on her way to Dr. Grant's office today to let me know she had felt some cramping and thought it best to go visit our doctor before closing time, just in case something was wrong with the baby.
The good news: Everything is fine. But it is a reminder that we're very, very close to having this kid. The contractions she felt were, in her words, "very minor, very light." In fact, by the time she got to the doctor's office, she said she started second-guessing whether she should have even gone. The doctor put her in for a stress test anyway, and some light contractions did register on the test. But the contractions were minor, and Jenny said Dr. Grant wasn't too worried about it. If she feels them again, the doctor told her to drink s ome water and sit down for a while until they pass. If they get stronger, he said to either come to the office or, if it's after hours, to head to the hospital. So everything is still good. Jenny couldn't stress that enough to me on the phone (I'm a nervous wreck about the baby if there's even a slight hint of a problem), so I want to stress it here: All is well. She's just letting us know she'll be here soon. I can't wait.
Powered by ScribeFire. January 22 Ultrasound photos from Jan. 22January 18 You go Glen JohnsonDid you see the video of Glen Johnson calling out Mitt Romney for what amounts to a bald-faced lie? If not, check out the video here (though I do have to say I disagree with CBS' remark that Johnson "lost his temper." From my viewing of it, I think he asked a tough question, nothing more. Where was the anger?) So Romney says that Kaufman, while a lobbyist, is not helping shape his campaign. Well, that wasn't always the case, according to this piece in the Cape Cod paper. So yes, another politician snuggled up to a lobbyist. No surprise there. But kudos to Johnson for calling Romney on his thinly veiled lie, and a big thumbs down to the Romney handler who had the audacity to scold Johnson for his alleged unprofessional manner. I hope the AP gives Johnson a fat raise and an award. I hope it also emboldens the rest of the press covering this fiasco we call an election to call these people out when they lie. Even if it does make Hillary Clinton cry. And as to Romney's defense that he's spending mostly his own money for the privilege of going to Washington and that he's not beholden to any lobbyist, well, dry that one out and you can fertilize the lawn. The man is as good as any fundraiser in the GOP, and that's saying a bunch. Check out this New York Times article on how Romney parlays his own wealth into big donations. Still don't believe me? Then check this out at opensecrets.org. If Romney has so much money of his own that he's willing to spend to represent you and me, then why is he the top fundraiser for the Republicans? Johnson did today exactly what the press is supposed to do. Good for him for having the guts to do it. Powered by ScribeFire. January 16 Bad manners, thy name is Doug BruceKudos go out to Colorado House Republicans for doing the right thing and letting one of their own know he can't kick around the press.
I mean that literally.
Doug Bruce delivered a kick to the knee of a Rocky Mountain News photographer during the opening prayer of the legislative session for -- horror of horros -- taking his picture.
Can you believe a Republican politician wouldn't want his picture taken while dressed to the nines and praying in the course of his civic duties? C'mon man, that's great publicty! And it doesn't cost you a dime. Even better!
You gotta love his refusal to apologize and his defense: The photographer was out of line for snapping his picture during a prayer.
So Bruce does the Christian thing and kicks the man. A man doing his job on public property within the rules of the House.
Absolutely shameful. And it gives a whole new meaning to the cry of "we need a shield law" by the press in this country. Apparently knee pads and shin guards need to be included as well. January 14 Get the new Bush administration coinsMy pal RyAnne e-mailed this to me. My apologies to those of you still supporting this president and administration:
Powered by ScribeFire. January 08 Second baby update of the dayWe had an ultrasound this afternoon with Dr. Grant. Unfortunately, no photos of the baby girl this time. Hopefully next week we'll get some.
She weighed in at 4 pounds, 1 ounce this afternoon. She's getting to be a big girl. We found out the other night she really likes homemade biscuits and gravy -- after chowing down on that, Jenny said she could feel a higher amount of movement than normal.
We're also in the market for a pediatrician, which we have to have in order to schedule the C-section. Dr. Grant gave us two recommendations, including the man who is the pediatrician for his own daughter (though he did say we might want to consider a woman -- not so much for now, but for when the baby girl starts to become a woman, if you're pickin' up what I'm puttin' down). He also offered this bit of advice: Don't call the pediatrician's office to ask if they're taking new patients. Just tell our obstetrician, Dr. Womack, the name of our future pediatrician. That puts us in his system, and if he bounces us Dr. Grant said he'd make a personal plea on our behalf.
We're big fans of Dr. Grant. We were a little bummed he no longer does deliveries. But we're also confident in Dr. Womack. We just really get along well with Dr. Grant.
Wow. Three blogs in one day. I've gone blog crazy. Happy anniversary to meToday marks three years since my last cigarette. And I still consider quitting to be my life's greatest accomplishment -- that's how hard it was.
![]() Powered by ScribeFire. Jenny is scheduled for a C-sectionJenny has a twi-night doubleheader of doctor appointments today. At this morning's appointment, Dr. Womack told her that she's going to schedule her for a C-section around March 4. The reason: The baby has been breech every time we've had an ultrasound, and Dr. Womack doesn't think that's going to change in the last eight or nine weeks (March 4 is only eight weeks away). She wants to schedule the C-section for about a week ahead of our March 11 due date. We should know the exact date in the next week, depending on when they can work Jenny in. There's still a chance she could go into labor early, but last week our other doctor, Dr. Grant, said he thought the baby would likely go to term. The fact Jenny has had zero complications since the big, scary night back in July leads him to believe the kid will at least get close to the due date. Bottom line: The latest she'll be here is around March 4, depending on when the C-section gets scheduled. If anything changes after our ultrasound later this afternoon, I'll update you all.
