October 26 Pumpkin carvingsJenny and I had a lot of fun carving pumpkins tonight. The scared-face pumpkin was a design we got from a project done by a couple of uber-talented designers at the Missourian. Jenny did that one on her own.
The bad-ass Storm Trooper was one we collaborated on. I found the stencil, which has since been taken offline for copyright fears (hence no link), and Jenny did the tracing. I did the initial carving, and Jenny followed by going over some of the accents. After that, she traced around everything with magic marker to make it stand out. We popped in a candle and voila!
October 23 The latest ultrasoundWe found out today we're having a girl!!!!! Check out the photos from the latest ultrasound. I'll have a full column on this over at ColumbiaMissourian.com come Friday afternoon. I'm really beat at this hour, so here are the down-and-dirty details: -- It's a girl. Just like I've been saying all along on this very blog. Just had to get a subtle "I told you so" in there. -- The bloodwork the doctor took from Jenny two weeks ago show a healthy baby, as does the ultrasound. -- Jenny will get ultrasounds every other week until just before Christmas. After that, she's in there weekly. This is to keep close track of the baby in light of Jenny's bicornuate uterus. -- All of the grandparents are thrilled to learn they're getting a granddaughter. And they're just as excited as they would be if it were a boy. -- Yes, the next baby needs to be a boy. ![]() October 12 Go Rockies!!!!I haven't been excited about baseball for years. Really, I dropped out after the strike back in the '90s and never really paid that much attention to baseball again. I got a little excited for the McGwire-Sosa home run chase, but the luster on that more than wore off after realizing that McGwire was likely juicin' and Sammy was possibly playing with corked wood.
You know what I love about the Rockies this year? Fundamentals. Good defense, solid pitching, timely hitting. It doesn't take some 'roided-out jagoff like Barry Bonds to get me hyped for baseball again. All I needs is a team like this year's Rockies.
If they win the Series, Clint Hurdle should run for president. He'd for sure carry Colorado's electoral votes. Probably Wyoming's too (all 3 of them). October 06 Here's what is new in my life latelyOK, been a little lax about the old blog lately. Time to rectify:
I've been busy working on a video project for my design class. My partner in teaching crime last year, Lisa Clausen (one of the most talented and awesome designers the world has ever seen, in my humble opinion), put together this wonderful PowerPoint for our first class last year that was geared toward getting the students excited about design by highlighting what their fellow students had done.
I've been working on updating it with our latest batch of uber-talented designers, only I'm doing mine with video. I recently cashed in on some professional development money I had been sitting on to get a video camera and a few accessories. So now I'm a video editor, although most professionals would laugh at the notion of me being a video editor with iMovie (Final Cut seems to be the preferred, but I didn't have that much money in my professional development fund. Maybe next year).
Anyway, here's the YouTube version of it. The one I'll show in class is much more clear.
Speaking of work, I just started writing a new column for the Missourian. It's all about mine and Jenny's trials and tribulations with the pregnancy. Click here to read all about the night we thought Jenny was having a miscarriage while I was 800 miles away. One more work-related note: The Missourian was featured on "The Colbert Report" this week. Check out this bit of truthy goodness. On the fitness front, I've been doing very well this week. I was afraid I had put myself on a slippery slope last week when I missed two mornings worth of cardio. One morning was because I forgot to set my alarm, and the other morning was because I was too lazy to get out of bed and go. I otherwise did all right -- I worked out with Rob the trainer twice and did 30 minutes worth of cardio on the other three mornings (I'm still doing the 5:30 a.m. thing). So I made it my goal this week to go all five weekday mornings in addition to my two regular visits with Rob. I managed to complete my goal, thought this 5:30 a.m. thing isn't any easier now than when I first started it. But it's important that I stay in my routine and stay disciplined -- chances are pretty good I'll have to stop seeing Rob when the baby comes (day care is expensive). And since Rob is the one who got me actually doing cardio on the days I don't work out with him (I've since exceeded his expectations), I'm giving up my source of motivation. In other words, if I don't keep myself going, I'm likely to pack on the pounds. Final note: I'm really getting into poker lately. I've been playing some online and I've played in two games here in Columbia over the past couple of weeks, including a game I hosted last night while Jenny went to the Elton John concert (big thanks to Mitchell for selling his extra tickets for a fraction of the cost). We play low-stakes, which is good because I went all in on my third hand and didn't get the heart I needed to take the pot. But I still had a lot of fun, and Jenny had a great time seeing Elton John. Her quip of the night: "It's baby's first concert." |
