Here's a short slideshow I put together of how it's coming along: ![]() Technorati Tags: Baby Sherlock, Jake Sherlock, Jenny Sherlock Powered by ScribeFire. November 23 A big night for Mikey TMy buddy Mikey is part of the band Vonnegut out of Denver. Their first big gig at the Gothic is coming up Dec. 1. If you're in the state of Colorado that day, I must recommend checking them out.
Also, as you will see below, their new album comes out early in 2008. Click the banner to check out the band's Web site on MySpace.

Is it the end of Shapin' Up 2.0?This coming Friday will be my last time working out with Rob the trainer. It's also the last day of my gym membership.
I'm going to miss the hell out of that place, but I'll be back. Right now, we don't have the money to spend on the gym. It needs to be going toward the baby and all the things about babies that change your life: We need a more baby-friendly car, for example. And we'll need to start paying for day care.
And by that same token, I'm a little relieved I won't be there anymore. I've just gotten so tired of the fitness thing lately, and I can't explain why. I guess I just feel really, really lazy. I stopped the 5:30 a.m. cardio sessions more than a month ago, and I tend to show up late for my appointments with Rob, so I'm not even getting a full two hours of exercise every week.
So until I can find my motivation again, it just makes sense to spend the money on other things. Hopefully this is just a phase and I'll get my gym mojo back. November 13 The new mattressThis is one I wrote nearly two months ago, but for some reason never posted until today. When it comes to having children, men have one simple job for the entire nine months: Keep the mother-to-be happy. Easy, right? All you have to do is be a sympathetic ear when she’s uncomfortable; provide her with weird combinations of food when she has one of those famed pregnancy cravings; and occasionally pull her hair back during the morning sickness phase. So far, I’ve learned all that is just the tip of the iceberg. In fairness, my wife, Jenny, is pretty low-maintenance. She doesn’t get morning sickness, a hereditary trait she apparently inherited from her mother. She does require a sympathetic ear when she’s uncomfortable, but she’s really good about satisfying her own food cravings, whether it be a run to Dairy Queen for some soft serve or to the grocery store for a jar of pickles. At least she hasn’t started combining the two – yet. Then there are the little things nobody can anticipate. Like when Jenny started telling me the mattress on our bed wasn’t comfortable for her anymore and she wanted a new one. We have a king-size bed, and a king-size mattress doesn’t come cheap. She had wanted one of those fancy Sleep Number mattresses, but I put the kibosh on that once I saw the price. Then I looked up the price on a regular mattress and realized the Sleep Numbers aren’t that much more expensive. So I was elated the day she called to tell me she had found a really comfortable mattress at a yard sale for only $250. I was even happier when she told me it was new and still wrapped in plastic. If there’s one thing Jenny is an expert at, it’s finding a good deal. That’s when the hard part began. Jenny is no slouch when it comes to getting her hands dirty. When we moved to Missouri, we packed and unpacked our own U-Haul with just the two of us. But now that she’s with child, the idea of her helping to push a mattress up the stairs didn’t sit too well with me. She helped anyway, but I provided most of the muscle. Or should I say, too much muscle. While pushing the large mattress up our narrow staircase to the bedroom, our new purchase got caught on a wall fixture that normally holds the hand railing (I had taken it off the wall to paint it and hadn’t put it back on yet). Unable to really see what I was doing, I just kept pulling and tugging on the mattress until it was on the second floor. It wasn’t until we went to put it on the bed that I realized I had ripped out the entire bottom of it. The new mattress now sits on top of the old one, which makes it a little scary for me to sleep on – falling off the observation deck at the Grand Canyon would be a shorter fall. It’s also taking me quite a while to adjust to the softer surface – after the first few nights, I was wishing I had sprung for the Sleep Number. But Jenny loves the new soft mattress, and she is sleeping much better because of it. And after a few nights, I was able to sleep a little easier too. ![]() Technorati Tags: baby, Jenny, mattress Powered by ScribeFire.
